Become a Market Sponsor! Deadline Mar 31st

Just a reminder that the deadline to sponsor the 2014 market season
is coming up on March 31st.
If you'd like to sponsor the market this year but don't think you'll make the deadline, you can email you pledge to: info@rhinebeckfarmersmarket.com
and then follow up by sending in the form below.

We want to send a sincere thank you to our 2013 Sponsors! We couldn't do what we do without your support.

This year, we enter our 21st season, the last four of which we have been operating year-round with over 30 Hudson Valley vendors providing a diverse and unique selection of farm fresh products that showcase the very best of our region.
Our market is unique in that it is not supported by a civic or governmental organization and enjoys no special eligibility status for grants. The market relies solely upon business sponsorship, donations, vendor fees, volunteers and merchandise sales for its operating funds. Administration is by a volunteer board of directors along with two paid personnel. 100% of funds raised go to the operation of the market, educational events, chef demonstrations, tastings of seasonal dishes, free recipes, children's activities, musical performances and to a scholarship for local students entering an agricultural field of study.
Donations of any amount will help to ensure a strong and successful farmers' market. We hope you will join your friends and neighbors in supporting the market this year by becoming a sponsor.

Winter Market Stew

It's Winter Market Stew weather. Come on by and get your ingredients this Sunday 10-2 today in the Rhinebeck Town Hall at 80 E Market St.

Winter Market Stew Ingredients:
1 1/2 lbs Stew Meat - Beef, Lamb or Goat
Salt & Pepper
1/4 Cup Flour
2 Tbsp Oil
1 Onion – chopped
1/2 Cup Red Wine
1 Quart Beef Broth
1 Tbsp Dried Thyme
1 Bay Leaf
5 Peppercorns - crushed
6 Small Red Potatoes – cut into large chunks
3 Carrots – peeled and cut into large chunks
1 Parsnips – peeled and cut into large chunks
6 Baby Turnips – tops trimmed, halved or quartered if large
3 Shallots – peeled and left whole

Season the meat with salt & pepper, then dredge in flour to lightly coat. Place a heavy bottom soup pot over medium-high heat, add the oil and allow it to get hot. Add the meat and sear on all sides to get a nice crust. Turn the heat down to medium, remove the meat and set aside on a plate. Add the chopped onions to the pot with a pinch of salt & pepper. Cook until soft and golden.
Add the red wine to the pot and scrape up the brown bits on the bottom of the pot. Allow the wine to reduce by half, then add the meat back to the pot and cover with the beef broth. Stir in the thyme, bay leaf and peppercorns. Bring to a boil. Then reduce to a simmer, cover and cook for 2 hours. Stirring occasionally.
Add the potatoes, carrots, parsnips, turnips and shallots to the pot. Cover and simmer 45 minutes more. Season with salt & pepper.
